Donna Hourani crafts her fine-jewellery creations from top-quality gemstones, which are hand-picked and ethically sourced by the designer. The stones are all set in 18K gold and vermeil, and the resulting masterpieces are both delicate and dramatic.
After studying interior architecture, the designer, who also has a background in art and dance, was certified by the Gemological Institute of America. Her flair for art is evident in her sketches, which use shape, shadow and colour to highlight the jewellery against charcoal grey figures. Asymmetry is key to Hourani’s aesthetic. Earrings, for instance, are either mismatched — of varying lengths or with different coloured stones — or designed to be worn as single pieces.
The designer will be showcasing her fine jewellery at a pop-up from January 19 to February 19 at Etoile La Boutique in Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. Expect to find pieces such as her pearl-studded Dew on Tendril Spiral earrings in solid gold, which loop through the ear in a manner that, if not for the intricacy and attention to detail, could be called avant-garde. Body chains, illusion earrings, ear cuffs, chokers, anklets and rings will also be available at the pop-up.
