Krayon releases limited-edition watch with Arabic numerals

The watches have been created in partnership with Perpetual, and there are only 15 available

The Swiss watchmaking company Krayon has launched a new timepiece with Arabic lettering and numerals.

Called Anywhere, the watch is 39-millimetre with a stainless steel case, and is driven by a C030 movement, the engine that also powers the 24-hour display and calendar on the timepiece.

It carries a power reserve of 86 hours, has 55 jewels and comprises 432 separate components. The watch also comes with rose gold hands and hour markers, and an alligator strap with contrasting orange stitching.

Sunrise and sunset are marked on black-and-orange display discs, with either a small sun, or moon traversing the dial.

However, what makes this timepiece so special is that all the characters around the dial, including hours, days and months, are in Arabic.

Available exclusively through Perpetuel, a specialist watch retailer in Dubai founded by Hamdan Al Hudaidi, a well-known figure in collector circles, only 15 of these timepieces will be available.

Given that these watches are hand-made, no information has been given about the price yet, however anyone interested should contact Perpetuel. Once ordered, the actual watch will be delivered by December.

"This timeless piece that we have made is nothing short of something very special and I am sure young watch collectors will fall in love with not just the aesthetics, but most certainly for its mechanical and technical complications, including the Arabic numerals, a first for us that is spectacular," said Remi Maillat, founder and creative director of Krayon.

Other versions of the Anywhere watch with non-Arabic numerals will also be available.

Maillet launched Krayon in 2013, after seven years at Cartier working on grand complications, including the Astrotourbillon and the Rotonde de Cartier Grande with a minute repeater and perpetual calendar.

A highly skilled engineer, Maillet’s second watch, called the Everywhere Horizon, scooped the Best Watchmaking Innovation of the Year award at the 2018 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve.
