A snow play park will open in Abu Dhabi in late 2020, and is being constructed as part of the upcoming Dh4.4 billion Reem Mall development.

The park, called simply Snow Abu Dhabi, will spread across 11,612 square metres when completed – to put that size into perspective, it is almost four times the size of Ski Dubai's snow park. The snow park is the area other than the main ski slope in the Mall of the Emirates destination, where you can toboggan etc.

However, the new snow park will be about half the size of Ski Dubai overall, which is 22,500 square metres, due to the huge ski run. The Abu Dhabi snow park will not have a ski run, but it will feature 13 rides and attractions, including Blizzard’s Bazaar, Snowflake Garden and Flurries’ Mountain, and there will be winter wonderland-style characters in the park to entertain younger visitors, too.

Construction on Reem Mall began in late 2017 and is anticipated to be complete by late 2020. The retail, dining and leisure destination will offer two million square feet of leasable space, comprising 450 stores, including 100 dining options.

Snow Abu Dhabi is just one of the entertainment options being built in the mall, which is a partnership between Al Farwaniya Property Developers, Thinkwell and Majid Al Futtaim Ventures (the latter is the holding company behind Ski Dubai).

Reem Mall will also feature a hypermarket, four department stores, two food courts, a multiplex cinema and more. Reem Mall will be divided into three areas: Mangrove Atrium, Urban Facade and Dynamic Facade – each inspired by the capital's mangrove forests, which includes salt flats and crystal formations.

Another ski attraction under construction in the UAE is at Meydan One Mall in Dubai, which sits in between Al Khail Road and the existing Meydan Racecourse. When the project was announced in 2015, a one-kilometre-long ski slope was part of the plan. Ground broke on that project in 2017, and it's slated to be finished in 2020.
