For this year's Emirati Women's Day, Laila Mostafa Abdullatif is calling on the sisterhood to come together and help save the planet.
As the director general of environmental non-profit Emirates Nature-WWF, Abdullatif is well placed to understand how critical the global situation is becoming, and today is asking women to step up for the cause.
With fires raging unchecked in Siberia and the Amazon rainforest, the lungs of the planet are literally burning, while sea water temperatures are rising, threatening reefs and sea plants with a stark future.
Abdullatif is using August 28, the annual event that celebrate the achievements and contributions of Emirati women, to ask her gender to act.
"The responsibility of preserving the environment lies on our shoulders,” Abdullatif explains. Speaking of the importance of the Earth, she continues: “It does not only yield the natural requirements that are essential to our health, but also to all other living species."
Appointed to her role in the regional branch of the World Wildlife Fund in 2017, Abdullatif is passionate about protecting the natural world.
"As an organisation our focus has been, and will continue to be, delivering high impact, science-based, robust conservation solutions which contribute to conserving the environment for the well-being of society and future generations," she says.
"Moving forwards, we will continue to nurture these partnerships, create new collaborations and engage with the public through a diverse range of opportunities as we highlight the vital connection between nature and humanity.”
In a video released to mark Emirati Women's Day, Abdullatif implores her countrywomen to get involved and help steer the future of the planet and all its inhabitants in a better direction.

Juvenile arthritis
Along with doctors, families and teachers can help pick up cases of arthritis in children.
Most types of childhood arthritis are known as juvenile idiopathic arthritis. JIA causes pain and inflammation in one or more joints for at least six weeks.
Dr Betina Rogalski said "The younger the child the more difficult it into pick up the symptoms. If the child is small, it may just be a bit grumpy or pull its leg a way or not feel like walking,” she said.
According to The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases in US, the most common symptoms of juvenile arthritis are joint swelling, pain, and stiffness that doesn’t go away. Usually it affects the knees, hands, and feet, and it’s worse in the morning or after a nap.
Limping in the morning because of a stiff knee, excessive clumsiness, having a high fever and skin rash are other symptoms. Children may also have swelling in lymph nodes in the neck and other parts of the body.
Arthritis in children can cause eye inflammation and growth problems and can cause bones and joints to grow unevenly.
In the UK, about 15,000 children and young people are affected by arthritis.
