Who doesn’t love pyjamas? In these subdued days, we all need some light-hearted news to lift the spirits, and so were happy to learn that high street powerhouse H&M is about to launch its latest designer collaboration – with upscale pyjama label Desmond & Dempsey.
Launching online on April 23, the new collection showcases the best of both worlds. It carries all the breezy, hand-sketched prints Desmond & Dempsey are so well known for, but instead of sleepwear, these have been splashed across easy-to-wear summer separates that look comfy enough to wear while staying at home.
Fittingly for these strange days, the collection feels light and uncomplicated, with palm trees, botanical patterns and comfortingly subtle shades of saffron yellow, dusty pink, azure blue, forest green and soft beige.
With the cuts soft and loose, this is comfort dressing made easy.
The brainchild of designer husband-and-wife team Molly Goddard and Joel Jeffery, the label Desmond & Dempsey was born out of a love of weekend lounging.
They took roomy cotton shirts and slip-on shorts and hand-painted them with patterns, and a new label was born. If the moniker of luxury sleepwear brings to mind old-fashioned bed robes, then think again – this is all crisp cotton, fresh and delightful enough to double as daywear.
By tying up with the Swedish fashion brand, Desmond & Dempsey is now able to reach a wider audience for its understated but utterly charming pieces.
“We are thrilled to be launching our collaboration with H&M,” said Molly Goddard, co-founder and creative director of Desmond & Dempsey. “We are excited to see our prints ‘in the wild’ and we hope it brings colour, joy and a sense of ease to everyone right now.”
Speaking of the collaboration, Maria Ostblom, head of womenswear design at H&M, described it as “a wonderful collection of easy-to-wear pieces and hand-painted prints, and evokes the Australian outback – terracotta soil, waving palms and a laidback vibe”.
