The place will forever be associated with the famous owner who was slain on the property's front steps.
But that is unlikely to deter the super rich from queuing up to buy Gianni Versace's former mansion in the South Beach area of Miami Beach. The property is on the market for US$125 million (Dh459.1m).
The killing "did not happen in the residence. If anything, I think there is so much history to the property, it only adds to the attraction for someone," Jill Eber, of The Jills, the upmarket estate agent acting for the sale, told the British newspaper The Telegraph.
"It's a positive. The buyer for this property will get instant celebrity status," she added.
The design of the Ocean Drive property, built in 1930, was inspired by the oldest existing Viceregal house in the Americas - Alcázar de Colón in Santo Domingo, which was built by Christopher Columbus's son, Diego Colón, when, in 1509, he assumed the post of viceroy of La Española and the Indies.
The fashion designer Versace bought the Miami property in 1992 and spent $33m extending and putting his uniquely flamboyant stamp on it. That included creating a 16-metre-long, 24-karat gold lined pool in a courtyard, surrounded by frescos, statues and arched doorways.
Versace's family subsequently sold the home and most of its contents after he was shot dead by the serial killer Andrew Cunanan while returning from a morning walk on July 15, 1997. The current owner, Peter Loftin, bought the property in 2000 and preserved Versace's design touches.
The telecommunications entrepreneur lived in the 10 bedroom, 11 bathroom mansion, known as Casa Casuarina, for a time before converting it into a private club and boutique hotel in 2009, known as Villa by Barton G, after the Miami-based designer Barton G Weiss, who renovated the property.
It remains that way today, so if you are a bit strapped for the $125m price, perhaps a night's stay in one of the mansion's suites may be more realistic.
It is likely that you may still need to warm your credit card up though, because a suite for two people for two nights from today starts at $1,250.
