Abu Dhabi’s tourism agency is leading a delegation to China next week for a five-city roadshow to promote the emirate.

The delegation will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu andGuangzhou on the mainland along with Hong Kong over five days beginning on Monday.

“China has now become our largest overseas source market for the very first time, overtaking the UK, India and Germany,” said Mubarak Al Nuaimi, the director of promotions and overseas offices at Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).

About 64,000 Chinese guests checked into Abu Dhabi’s hotels and hotel apartments during the first quarter – almost double last year’s numbers. They stayed an average of 1.42 nights.

Etihad flies to Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai seven days a week. From June 15, it will add a new daily service from Hong Kong.

TCA Abu Dhabi’s visit comes close on the heels of Dubai’s tourism agency hosting Dubai Week in Beijing last week to promote the emirate as a tourism and investment destination.

In 2014, 344,000 Chinese tourists visited Dubai, an increase of 25 per cent from the previous year.
