ABU DHABI // Revellers disappointed that several New Year’s Eve concerts had been cancelled at the last minute will get to party after all at a free bash for concert ticket holders.

The concerts were to be held at five UAE hotels: the InterContinental Hotel Abu Dhabi; the Crowne Plaza Yas Island; the Beach Rotana in Abu Dhabi; Al Ain Rotana; and the InterContinental Hotel Dubai Festival City.

But the organiser, Red Line Media and Marketing, informed the hotels by email that the events would not go ahead. The company gave no explanation and would not respond to inquiries.

Each hotel was to have a performance from a popular Arab musician but all were forced to cancel their respective events, for which tickets cost from Dh800 to Dh2,500.

The Intercontinental Abu Dhabi announced that it had organised another party for those who had bought a ticket to their event.

“Intercontinental Abu Dhabi is extremely disappointed and deeply angered by the manner in which our valued customers and guests have been treated by Red Line,” a post on the hotel’s social networking site read.

“As it is a time of celebration, and as a gesture of goodwill to our guests, we will be organising an alternative and complimentary New Year’s Eve party. We are pleased to offer this concessionary arrangement for guests who had booked and paid for tickets to the original concert organised by Red Line.”

The hotel said they had learnt from the authorities that the owners of Red Line had absconded from the UAE, and they intended to take legal action.

To qualify for free entry, revellers must bring the original event ticket with a receipt of purchase and identification.

The venue will be restricted to 550 guests. Doors close at 11.30pm.
