That’s how much it costs to refurnish an average one-bedroom apartment in the UAE if it has been damaged by fire, flooding or other disaster. According to analysis from compareit4me.com, the figure is the equivalent of 127 years’ worth of home insurance, with the average policy listed on the comparison website costing Dh220 a year. The cost-analysis takes into account major furniture such as dining tables, sofas and TV stands, as well as basic household electronics such as fridges and washing machines.

Global Bond investors’ biggest concern: populism

Forget Federal Reserve interest rate hikes and rising inflation – the thing really worrying bond investors is politics. More than 30 per cent of high-grade credit investors listed populism in politics as their biggest concern for the next 12 months, according to a Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research report published on Monday. Just 9 per cent had named it as their main worry in a similar survey conducted in October, ahead of the surprise election of Donald Trump.

Emirates NBD’s new edutainment mobile simulation game, Banki, launched this week to promote financial literacy in the UAE. The free game is aimed at Emirati youth to help them become economically aware at a young age and consider careers in the banking and financial services sector. Available from Google Play and iTunes, users play games to help them understand savings, trading, simple financial transactions and digital banking.
