DUBAI // More than 55 tech lovers from across the Middle East are flying to Dubai on Friday to be among the first people in the world to own the new iPhone 6.

“We have more than 20 people flying in to receive their iPhone 6 devices and more than 35 to receive their iPhone 6 Plus devices,” said Sheriff Rizwan, founder and chief executive of alshop.com.

“This year’s pre-orders for the new iPhone has broken all previous records. We have had more than 700 pre-orders.”

He said buyers are flying in from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Lebanon and Jordan to receive their phones from alshop.com’s office in Business Bay.

“The phones will be released tomorrow in about 10 countries, including the United States,” he said. “We are the only retail store, online and not online, in the Middle East that will be providing customers with phones on the global release date.”

The phones were scheduled to be available in the UAE from next Friday.

Most orders, Mr Rizwan said, were for the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus in gold, followed by the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus in silver and the 128GB iPhone 6 in gold.

“The iPhone 6, 16GB is being sold for Dh5,500, the 64GB will go for Dh6,000 and the 128GB will be sold for Dh8,000,” he said. “As for the iPhone 6 Plus, the price has yet to be decided but those who have pre-ordered have already paid an undisclosed advance.

“We will be delivering iPhone 6 Plus units to the elite customers who really don’t care about the prices, as they just want to get the iPhone 6 Plus tomorrow.”

The alshop.com boss said all the phones are to be delivered by Friday evening.
