Plans for a central business district (CBD) have officially been "hibernated", said Shaun O'Connor, the chief financial officer of TDIC.
New office projects are already under way around Abu Dhabi, including large-scale developments on Sowwah Island and Reem Island.
"It makes no sense for us to launch another CBD at the same time those are trying to be filled," Mr O'Connor said.
The plans for the CBD on Saadiyat call for low-rise buildings catering primarily to small businesses, not the towers dominating other business districts in Abu Dhabi.
