Running the office was never like this – DIFC to host charity square-mile relay

The relay will take part in February in the Dubai International Financial Centre with teams of 10 racing to complete the 'unconventional one-mile course'.

For the first time in the region, Dubai will host the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, giving companies the opportunity to compete for a cash prize of Dh30,000 towards their charity of choice.

The relay will take place in February in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) with teams of 10 racing to complete the “unconventional one-mile course”. Participants will sprint through a route that includes staircases, running along corridors and through buildings.

“The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a unique sporting event whose goal is to offer a platform for teams from local corporates to express their sporting enthusiasm, while also building trust and understanding within and between teams,” said Nick Keller, the managing director of the event organiser Square Mile Sport.

The event, which was started in London in 2007, will now be held in 8 cities with more expansion plans on the horizon for 2017.

“Bloomberg’s decision to partner with DIFC as the first location in the Middle East to host the Square Mile Relay is a true testament to our positioning alongside leading financial centres such as London, Hong Kong and New York,” said Raja Al Mazrouei, senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications at the DIFC Authority.

Live music will kick off after the race for runners and supporters. The fastest team will receive the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Dubai race trophy.“The event is open to all levels of experience, whether you are an elite runner or just run for fun in your spare time – we want everyone to enjoy this fantastic experience,” said Mr Keller.
