Dubai's Al Shafar Transport and Contracting Company has been awarded a Dh600 million contract from Nakheel to build 300 homes at its Al Furjan development in Dubai. The contract win follows Arabtec Construction's Dh3bn deal - which was clinched early last month ? to build 1,500 homes at the development. Al Shafar Transport and Contracting Company, which has also worked on Nakheel's Dubai International City project, will build a selection of villas and terraced homes at Atal Furjan, which is located on a 5.4 million square metre site behind Discovery Gardens and close to Jebel Ali Village.
"We are extremely pleased to have been appointed to work with Nakheel on the Al Furjan project," said Ahmed Abdullah al Shafar, chairman of Al Shafar Transport and Contracting Company. Khansaheb Civil Engineering is undertaking all infrastructure work at Al Furjan after securing a Dh1bn contract in May. The project, which is set for completion in 2011, will be made up of 4,000 homes as well as hotels and commercial facilities, and will be spread across four communities. The development is expected to house 90,000 people.
Al Furjan is part of Nakheel's massive development portfolio, which is estimated to be worth Dh239bn and includes Dubai Promenade, The Universe and the redevelopment of Port Rashid, - all of which have been announced since the beginning of the year. agiuffrida@thenational.ae
