Madinat Zayed business district project gets Dh1bn construction package

The development of a new business district, south of Abu Dhabi island, has been given a boost with the award of a Dh1 billion construction package.

The Abu Dhabi Executive Council on Thursday said that the “integrated multi-use urban centre”, once completed, will be home to nearly 300,000 people and another 325,00 workers. The statement said that the Executive Council “had approved the award of the business district project in Madinat Zayed in Abu Dhabi – package (1) amounting to approximately Dh1bn”.

No other details on the project, including the scheduled date of completion or the developing partner, were provided.

However, the Madinat Zayed development – located in a triangle between Khalifa City A, Khalifa City B and Mohammed Bin Zayed City – has been under the directive of the government services company Musanada. It was first planned as the ambitious 4,900-hectare Capital District back in 2009.

The Abu Dhabi Executive Council statement said the project’s scope includes infrastructure works such as roads and utilities to be provided to more than 700 commercial plots.

The area will include a “multi-modal” public transport system, the statement said without elaborating.

The public transport element of the project “confirms the commitment of Abu Dhabi to the development of its infrastructure, in order for it to be comparable to world renowned cities, and its quest to complete the improvement of infrastructure in response to economic and demographic growth”, the statement said.

“It also confirms its commitment to realising its vision that resides in continuing to work on establishing a confident and safe society and building a sustainable open and competitive economy.”
