The luxury St Regis hotel, being developed by TDIC, and the Dh1 billion (US$272.2 million) Park Hyatt resort, which is owned by Abu Dhabi National Hotels, are scheduled to open next month.

Nine hotels were planned for the Saadiyat Island beach district, including a Shangri-La, Rotana and a Mandarin Oriental.

Those hotels, some of which are being built by third-party developers, have been delayed or put on hold. TDIC said it was reluctant to put more properties into the market at the moment to compete with the St Regis.
