A good night's sleep is not the only criteria for a good bed.
Or so says a UAE-based designer, along with a Dubai IT company and a German firm that has turned it into a viewing option.
A king-sized, four-poster bed with a white frame comes with a 55-inch screen and an overhead projector beside a Mac Mini for those having trouble just sleeping.
Called the Qubic Theatre, it was launched here during the Hotel Show in Dubai last month, and is marketed by Dubai's Pro Technology.
Starting at Dh95,000 though, and that without a mattress, it does not come cheap. One needs to buy a 2 metre by 2 metre mattress. But the price can rise to Dh200,000, depending if you choose a customised mattress and more frills such as cabinets and curtains on the side, says Jamal Maraqa, the managing director for Pro Technology.
The overhead projector comes with an amplifier, an HD and 3D projection system and is able to transmit wireless music from smartphones and tablets. The wires and modems can be tucked away in the long cabinet at the foot of the bed.
The artist Sinmar Al Said, who is also an interior decorator, designed the look and shape of the bed. Pro Technology and Sonic Chair, a German company behind a multimedia chair of the same name launched about seven years ago, managed the audio and wireless connectivity of the bed.
The white material of the display bed, which has the look and finish of an Apple product, is from Belgium and is designed for quality sound absorption and reflection.
Pro Technology, which has offices on Sheikh Zayed Road and Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai, is an IT systems integration company launched in 1998.
It is also a distributor for Apple products and the company has six business units. One of them – Pro Style – started sourcing and developing high-end lifestyle products a year ago. Qubic Theatre is one of them.
