Etihad Airways said that the introduction of its daily Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service to Singapore reflects the importance of the route.

The state-of-the-art aircraft began its new schedule on Saturday evening, flying from Abu Dhabi to Changi Airport.

“The Etihad Airways B787-9 Dreamliner is the most customised aircraft of its kind in the sky,” said Etihad president and chief executive James Hogan. “Never before has the airline had such a compelling proposition nor been as strong a competitor in the Singapore travel market.”

Mr Hogan added that the evening departures in both directions offer improved connectivity to 35 destinations in the GCC, Middle East, Africa and Europe.

The 787-9 Dreamliner carries 235 guests – eight in first class, 28 in business class and 199 in economy.

It comes with the commercial aviation industry’s largest windows and technology to sense and counter turbulence for a smoother ride

Etihad currently operates its B787-9s to Washington DC, Zurich and Brisbane. Its order for two variants of the B787 (-9 and -10), is one of the world’s largest for the type, totalling 71 aircraft.

Meanwhile, fellow UAE carrier Emirates, on Saturday started its daily Airbus A380 flights to Madrid, marking five years of flying to Spain.
