Saudi Arabia, the leading OPEC oil producer, is building what may be the world's largest solar district hot-water project. Millennium Energy Industries, a MENA-focused solar energy company headquartered in Jordan, announced today it had won a contract to design and build a "flagship" facility to supply solar-heated water to the Princess Noura University for Women, which is under development in Riyadh. The company said the solar system was intended to provide hot-water for the entire university campus, would have more than 17 megawatts of capacity and was scheduled to be commissioned before the launch of the university next year. Millennium, which has offices in Amman, Abu Dhabi, Beirut, Ramallah and Riyadh, said its major shareholder was Catalyst Private Equity, a regional cleantech and energy efficiency fund.
