Emirates is to increase its flights to Jeddah during Ramadan to accommodate the rise in travellers for Umrah.

The carrier is operating an extra 42 flights between Dubai and Jeddah between tomorrow and July 23, and an extra 11 flights from July 24 to August 11. Emirates said the additional services can be accessed by travellers holding a valid Umrah visa. GCC nationals do not need a visa.

“Travelling for Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan is a unique experience for Muslims around the world,” said Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, the Emirates divisional senior vice president.

"With a sizeable increase in the demand for air travel during Ramadan, Emirates is helping to make the journey more seamless for the scores of pilgrims looking to travel during this time."

An extra baggage incentive is also being offered during Ramadan.

Passengers in the UAE who travel on Emirates to select destinations in Africa and south and west Asia in economy class will receive up to 15 kilograms of additional checked-in baggage for both of their journeys.

The offer is valid for travel until July 15.
