Boeing has agreed a deal at the Dubai Airshow to develop its new Middle East headquarters within the aviation district at Dubai South.

The aircraft manufacturer has said that the facility will include its regional base, a spare parts warehouse, a distribution building and a maintenance training building. It hopes to begin operations from the site in 2017.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony attended by Dubai South’s parent Dubai Aviation City Corporation’s chairman Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum and the Boeing president Dennis Muilenburg.

Mr Muilenburg said: “This agreement demonstrates Boeing’s commitment to our customers in the region and support for the Dubai government’s vision for Dubai South.”

Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum said: “I congratulate Boeing on its strategic decision to establish its regional headquarters at Dubai South – a city that embodies Dubai’s aerospace vision. I am confident that the new address will deliver a solid advantage to Boeing as it seeks to expand its footprint in Dubai and in the region.”

Dubai South is a 145-square kilometre purpose-built aerotropolis being created around Al Maktoum International Airport. It will contain the exhibition site being built for Expo 2020, a Dh25 billion residential zone known as The Villages, an Emirates Flight Academy, an aviation district, a logistics and cargo district and a new free zone business park. The city was previously known as Dubai World Central until a rebranding was announced in August this year.
