Abu Dhabi Air Expo suspended as extreme weather hits UAE capital

All people were told to evacuate the site until further notice.

Organisers suspended activities on the second day of the Abu Dhabi Air Expo due to the extreme weather conditions in the city.

The event, being held at Al Bateen airport until Thursday, was closed at around 11.25am when a thunderstorm hit, with strong winds blowing through the chalets, chairs, tables, and banners placed around the outdoor exhibition site which features jets, helicopters and other aircraft.

All people were told to evacuate the site until further notice. Some damage has been reported at the exhibition site.

An update on Thursday’s schedule will be issued in due course, organisers said in a statement.
