If a rich and glamorous movie star such as Megan Fox said she watched the new LG Cinema 3D TV, would you go out and buy one?

Actress Megan Fox was in the Capital to promote LG's new range of 3D televisions.

The LG marketing team, who this week brought Fox to Ferrari World for the launch of their latest offering, certainly hopes so.

But during the press conference, as the star of the Transformers movie franchise described how much she and her family liked the TV, one man just metres away sat sleeping soundly.

So not everyone was sold.

Nevertheless, the other lucky invitees got to enjoy a mixture of roller coasters, Ferraris and celebrity - not only Fox but also her husband, Brian Austin Green, a star of the Beverly Hills, 90210 series aired in the 1990s.

It was easy to forget this week's event was on behalf of an electronics device, which actually does make watching 3D more enjoyable. It is twice as bright as a normal TV and screens to the viewer at 240 frames per second compared with the 60 frames that current 3D TVs offer.

Importantly, the cost of buying the glasses that go with the TV is much less. LG estimates its glasses will be about one tenth the cost of glasses currently on the market, which can retail for about US$100 (Dh367.30) worldwide, and make buying for the whole family more affordable. Also, viewers can watch from a 180-degree angle rather than looking straight at the TV.

At a starting price of Dh5,999 for the 42-inch model, the LG 3D TV is not expensive considering it includes the latest technology - some LED TVs retail in the Emirates for close to that amount. An important caveat is that analysts predict the glasses will become extinct in a couple of years as manufacturers are researching glasses-free technology.
