Trio Couture designers on F1 outfit: ‘If you don’t feel comfortable, then don’t wear it – it’s a long day’

Huda Al Shamsi, Fatima Kadass and Itaf Adnan launched Trio Couture – one of the labels participating in Fashion Fever Grand Prix – five years ago, to supply unique gowns, jalabiyas and abayas to women in the Emirates.

Today, the fashion house has its own boutique, located in Shining Towers, Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi.

The label prides itself on its personalised approach, offering bespoke pieces to its clients.

For Fashion Fever Grand Prix, the focus was on creating pieces that were both fashion-forward and wearable, but also versatile. It was important to keep in mind that racegoers may head straight from the viewing decks to an after-party without changing their outfits.

“We want to be able to give women the opportunity to look elegant, but maintain practicality,” says Adnan.

She describes the ideal Formula 1 Grand Prix outfit as one that is elegant and wearable but has an eye-catching element to it as well.

While some women opt for clingy skirts and tight bodices, Adnan advises women to keep comfort in mind when choosing an F1 outfit.

“If you don’t feel comfortable, then don’t wear it – it’s a long day, and the last thing you want to feel is uncomfortable before you’ve even left the house,” she says.

Large handbags are also a bad idea for race weekend.

“Space is constricted at these sporting events, so there is no room for luggage,” says Adnan. “A wrist wallet with your necessities is what I would recommend,” she says.

Fusing fashion and Formula 1 was not a difficult task for the Trio Couture designers.

“Fashion is something that is very prominent in F1, and we’re beginning to see fashion in sport more often – like Stella McCartney designing the Olympic kit for Great Britain,” says Adnan.

She won’t give too much away about Trio Couture’s collection for Fashion Fever, but did reveal that there will be a lot of handmade pieces with crystal embellishments.

“We’ve taken couture and infused it with a sporty feel,” she says.
