Tribeca ends as Goodfellas meet

The Tribeca Film Festival in New York ended with a bang on Saturday – with a special 25th anniversary screening of the Martin Scorsese gangster film Goodfellas. Stars Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Paul Sorvino walked the red carpet. Liotta recalled Scorsese saying he wanted to shoot the film "like a gangster". Scorsese couldn't make the screening because he was out of the country, but he sent a filmed message introducing the film to the audience. After the screening, Daily Show host Jon Stewart moderated a panel discussion with the cast. – AP

Obama plays it for laughs

US President Barack Obama joked about presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others as he headlined the star-studded annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner with a stand-up comedy routine. His performance on Saturday raised money for scholarships for young journalists. He quipped: "I have one friend ... just a few weeks ago she was making millions of dollars a year, and she's now living out of a van in Iowa." Clinton recently began her campaigning with a road trip to the early-voting state from her New York home. Obama also said: "It is no wonder that people keep pointing out how the presidency has aged me. I look so old, [Republican speaker of the House of Representatives] John Boehner's already invited Netanyahu to speak at my funeral." The night's mix of Washington journalists and Hollywood stars also featured Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda, reality TV star Donald Trump, actresses Kerry Washington and Tea Leoni, and the cast of the hit sitcom Modern Family. When he took the stage, Obama joked it was the night when "Washington celebrates itself. Somebody's got to do it." – AP
