Randy Jackson out as American Idol judge
Randy Jackson has left the judging panel of American Idol but will remain involved in the talent series as a mentor to the contestants. After fellow judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez left the show in July, Mariah Carey was signed on as one of the replacements. Producers are reportedly in talks with Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban to fill the two remaining slots in the panel. The new season of American Idol premieres in January.
Lindsay Lohan banned from Hollywood hotel
Lindsay Lohan has been barred from the storied Hollywood hotel Château Marmont for failing to pay more than US$46,000 (Dh169,000) in bills. The actress stayed in the hotel for 47 days while shooting the TV movie Liz and Dick. "We are as horrified, disappointed and troubled by this occurrence as Ms Lohan surely is," read a statement from the hotel. The celebrity news site TMZ said Lohan had told friends that she expected the producers to pay the bill and was shocked to be banned. - AFP
Release of third Hobbit announced
Warner Bros and MGM announced on Friday that the final film in Peter Jackson's highly anticipated trilogy, titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released worldwide on July 18, 2014. The title was taken from the second instalment, which will now be called The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and will be screened next year on December 13. - AP
Sylvester Stallone's son died from heart condition
Coroner's officials have determined that Sylvester Stallone's 36-year-old son died in July from natural causes due to a heart condition. No foul play had been suspected and toxicology results showed only a minimal amount of hydrocodone in his system. Hip-hop mogul commits suicide
Chris Lighty, the New York hip-hop mogul behind megastars like 50 Cent, Mariah Carey and Sean "Diddy" Combs, committed suicide with a gunshot to the head on Friday. Lighty, 44, had been a major player in the industry for decades, working with pioneers like LL Cool J before starting his own management company, Violator.
