Timeframe: Anatomy in Trucial times

A new exhibition, The Trucial Scouts: Life and Times will run at Al Jahili Fort from November 1 to April 28

The Trucial Oman Levies were formed in 1951 by the British to ensure stability along the Trucial Coast. Based in Sharjah, they became the Trucial Oman Scouts in 1956. And as this photograph from August 9, 1961, shows, their remit had spread to medical instruction.

Here, a British staff sergeant John P Hindley, left, uses a model of the human body to instruct two medical students. The force also had a base at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain. A new exhibition, The Trucial Scouts: Life and Times which explores the force's history will open at the fort on Thursday and will run until April 26. Why not take a drive to the Garden City to see the historic fort and exhibition?
