As everyone knows, the sort of pseudo cod-philosophy spouted by men in bars is as internationally regarded as that of Aristotle, Descartes and Marx. Which is probably why Al Murray, better known by his alias The Pub Landlord, has been so successful, and possibly why he's been to Dubai so many times.
This September, Murray will be bringing his new tour, The Only Way Is Epic, to our gilt-edged shores (well, to the First Group Theatre in the Madinat Jumeirah), a tour that promises to carry on with more of the same rib-tickling bar-room insights as last year's Barrel of Fun.
If you're unaware of this award-winning character, imagine a reactionary, right-wing, fiercely patriotic Brit, the sort of stuck-in-his-way guy who unconditionally dislikes foreigners and has an illogical solution for all the world's problems. Imagine the Daily Mail's website acted out on stage. Thankfully, however, it's all done in a gag-heavy, hysterically delusional sort of way rather than anything overtly racist.
He once suggested the Swiss were "like a flat that will never sell because the Austrians, Germans, French and Italians are neighbours" and said that George Bush "should be the man the Americans send to Mars". Harmless stuff.
The Only Way Is Epic lands in Dubai on September 11 and 12, sandwiched between Hereford and Porthcawl on his UK tour (he probably wanted to see a bit of sun). Tickets are on sale now.
Oh, and if you see him on stage in his pub landlord garb clutching a pint of beer, don't worry: it's fake.
