San Diego is the new Hollywood, according to Sylvester Stallone.

The Rambo star was in the city as guest of Comic-Con.

Joining Sly on stage was Arnold Schwarzenegger, his co-star in the upcoming action flick Escape Plan.

“This is a real movie town,” Stallone said. “It’s – dare I say it – the new Hollywood.”

Stallone joked on how film studios tried valiantly throughout the years to pair him up Schwarzenegger.

“They would bring us things where we would dress up as girls and there were bickering neighbours and we’d have arguing pets. I go, 'This is not working',” he said.

“I said, 'Why don’t we be two creepy inmates when we are 20 years past our prime?’ There’s a good idea. And that’s where we are. But it turned out great actually. It’s fantastic. We found a new prime.”

Schwarzenegger was happy to play along.

“We have the same accent,” he said.

“We are both into the body, the muscles, the acting, art, painting, family. All of those kind of things. There’s a lot of things we have in common. He’s more talented when it comes to the art. Even though I paint and draw, but he’s really talented.”

To be released in October, Escape centres on two ageing inmates who attempt to escape the world's most secure prison.
