Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor was in Dubai this week to promote her forthcoming movie Neerja, which tells the true story of PanAm stewardess Neerja Bhanot, who died while saving many passengers lives during the 1986 Karachi hijacking of PanAm Flight 73. It seems a popular British rock band may have already done her publicity on her behalf however. Kapoor has been in the headlines for her brief appearance in the video for Coldplay's new single, Hymn for the Weekend, which critics have accused of misappropriating Indian culture, in part through Kapoor's appearance in traditional Indian dress and jewellery.

Kapoor was keen to stick to the topic of the movie, which releases on February 18, on her visit, though she did admit to being a fan of Chris Martin's British soft rock troupe: "I listened to Yellow all the time in school, so when the opportunity to appear in their video, and get VIP access to their gigs, came along, of course I said 'yes'." Kapoor added that she is a little non-plussed by the attention her appearance has generated : "I just find it strange how everyone is getting so excited. I'm only in, like, three shots!"

In fact, Kapoor seemingly revealed a hitherto unknown love of all things guitar rock during our brief meeting. On spotting this journalist’s ageing Nirvana t-shirt, the star noted: “It doesn’t matter how long ago it was – Nirvana will never really die.”

Neerja will be released in cinemas from February 18
