Six new beauty products in the UAE

  • English
  • Arabic

1. Christian Louboutin Nail Polish

It was a stroke of red nail polish that inspired Christian Louboutin to create what is now the iconic “red sole”. And with Louboutin’s latest beauty launch – a new line of nail varnishes – it seems the story of the red sole has come full circle. The range comes in a variety of colours, which has been split into three families: the Pops, the Noirs and the Nudes. Each varnish comes in a moulded glass bottle, designed to “evoke a shiny lacquer imprisoned in a piece of faceted crystal”, according to Louboutin. The new line is currently available in Christian Louboutin boutiques around the Middle East.

2. Dolce & Gabbana Skincare

Dolce & Gabbana has partnered with the scientists over at P&G Prestige to create its first-ever skincare line-up. The collection is divided into two lines: Essential, which is meant to purify, perfect and protect the skin, and an advanced treatment line, Aurealux, to hydrate and reveal natural skin radiance. Both lines utilise a new active complex called Gold Flavo-Silk Tricomplex, which consists of a mix of amino acids, polypeptides and vitamin B3, and moisturises the skin while evenly defining skin tone. The collection comprises creams, serums, masks, cleansing solutions, exfoliators and toners, and will be available in the UAE at Harvey Nichols in Mall of the Emirates and Paris Gallery at The Dubai Mall, as of November.

3. Gucci Cosmetics

The newly launched Gucci Cosmetics collection has been created to deliver ideal technical performance while complementing Gucci’s signature palette of colours and house motifs. The line-up includes Gucci Eye, Gucci Face, Gucci Lip and Gucci Nail, together with brushes and special preparation products for the skin. The make-up artist Pat McGrath, who co-engineered the creation of the collection, purposely designed the cosmetics so that they would fit in a professional make-up artist’s kit, but also act as a woman’s everyday beauty product, aiming for a look that is both professional and personalised. Gucci Cosmetics is currently available in stores around the UAE.

4. Priti NYC

The mission of Priti NYC, when launched by the American model Kim D'Amato in 2005, was to support organic farmers and to decrease the amount of chemicals "poisoning the Earth". D'Amato was also pregnant at the time and was in search of pregnancy-friendly beauty items, which were few and far between. The non-toxic, vegan-friendly luxury nail polish line has just become available in the UAE and comes in 100 different shades, including metallics, mattes, neons and classic nudes. Great for eco-friendly beauty lovers, Priti NYC is available on www.eidealonline.com.

5. Oribe Hair Care

The hairstylist Oribe, known for pioneering the famous “dishevelled” hair look on the runway and the belief that you can never have enough volume, launched Oribe Hair Care in 2008 – and his extensive line of products has recently become available in the UAE. The hair-care line, which Oribe designed to provide “old-world hairstyling, supported by new-world technology”, offers an assortment of products, from shampoos, conditioners and masques, as well as styling products and tools, for a variety of hair types and needs. The Oribe Hair Care line is stocked exclusively at Harvey Nichols, Dubai.

6. UberCosmetics

UberCosmetics is now offering its eyelash- and eyebrow-enhancing products in the UAE. Uberlash, a growth serum that both lengthens and strengthens lashes, helps to intensify lash appearance by thickening the lash diameter and boosting volume and length while stimulating follicle cells to promote new hair growth. For thicker brows, UberCosmetics offers Uberbrow, which promises to dramatically increase the appearance of brow volume, thickness and definition within two weeks. The formula delivers a deep-conditioning blend of vitamins and a nourishing infusion of peptides, herbs and amino acids, which help to naturally restore, nourish and even- out brows over time. UberCosmetics is now available at the Bloomingdale’s beauty department in The Dubai Mall.

Dubai works towards better air quality by 2021

Dubai is on a mission to record good air quality for 90 per cent of the year – up from 86 per cent annually today – by 2021.

The municipality plans to have seven mobile air-monitoring stations by 2020 to capture more accurate data in hourly and daily trends of pollution.

These will be on the Palm Jumeirah, Al Qusais, Muhaisnah, Rashidiyah, Al Wasl, Al Quoz and Dubai Investment Park.

“It will allow real-time responding for emergency cases,” said Khaldoon Al Daraji, first environment safety officer at the municipality.

“We’re in a good position except for the cases that are out of our hands, such as sandstorms.

“Sandstorms are our main concern because the UAE is just a receiver.

“The hotspots are Iran, Saudi Arabia and southern Iraq, but we’re working hard with the region to reduce the cycle of sandstorm generation.”

Mr Al Daraji said monitoring as it stood covered 47 per cent of Dubai.

There are 12 fixed stations in the emirate, but Dubai also receives information from monitors belonging to other entities.

“There are 25 stations in total,” Mr Al Daraji said.

“We added new technology and equipment used for the first time for the detection of heavy metals.

“A hundred parameters can be detected but we want to expand it to make sure that the data captured can allow a baseline study in some areas to ensure they are well positioned.”
