Short Story Writing Competition announced

Have you heard that The National's Arts&Life section is working with the Abu Dhabi Book Fair to launch our annual Short Story Writing Competition?

That means that if you live in the UAE, happen to be 18 or older, like to write and, incidentally, are not related to anyone working in either Abu Dhabi Media or the Abu Dhabi Book Fair, you have two weeks to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and produce 1,000 to 1,500 words of literary genius.

The Terms & Conditions for the competition are straight forward enough:

- Budding short story writers have another chance to sharpen their literary skills with the return of Abu Dhabi Book Fair and The National's short story competition.
- Writers are invited to submit specifically themed short stories. Five short listed entries will be published in The National's Arts and Life section.
- The author's short stories must be between 1,000 to 1,500 words and must either tackle the theme 2012: End of Days or entitle their entry The Others using whatever genres they wish.
- Contest is open to those ages 18 and above who are not related to anyone working at Abu Dhabi Media Company or the Abu Dhabi Book Fair.
- Authors must be residing in the UAE in order to collect their prize
- Story must be written in English
- Story must be written for an adult audience
- Only original and unpublished submissions will be accepted
- Story must be in a readable text document and sent via email to [e-mail]
- First round of entries will be judged by an in-house panel of editors employed by The National.
- Winning entries will be picked by a guest author from The Abu Dhabi Book Fair.
- Submit stories to [e-mail] by midnight on Monday, March 19
