Smart move, DIFF 2013 programmers, landing American Hustle as your closing gala film. The director David O Russell, who just last year was riding high on the success of Silver Linings Playbook, is back mere months later with what looks to be another Oscar contender - even paying a visit to Dubai to personally promote the film. The fictionalised version of a real-life 1970s-era scam is not only getting great reviews, it tied with 12 Years A Slave (which also screened at DIFF) for the most Golden Globe Award nominations at seven apiece. American Hustle also fared well in the previously announced Screen Actor’s Guild Award nominations.
