Prince's home will be turned into a lasting memorial for fans to remember the music legend. Maurice Phillips, Prince's brother-in-law, told The Sun newspaper: "We will turn Paisley Park into a museum in Prince's memory. It would be for the fans. He was all about the fans. This would remember his music, which is his legacy. Prince was always private but would have wanted his music remembered." The singer's collaborator and former girlfriend Sheila E said Prince had already begun work on a preservation project before he died. She said: "We're hoping to make Paisley what Prince wanted it to be. He was working on it being a museum. There's a hallway of his awards and things, which he really didn't care about too much, but he displayed it for the fans because he knows that they would want to see it." – IANS

New footage of Beatles released

Never-before-seen footage of The Beatles “mucking around” in a make-up studio ahead of a TV performance, shot more than 50 years ago, was released by Australia’s national film and sound archive yesterday. The 49-second black-and-white silent clip was shot with an 8mm camera belonging to Australian dancer and make-up artist Dawn Swane. The footage, from November 1, 1965, shows John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr having fun in front of the camera. Swane, now 83, said: “I don’t know if it was John or if it was Ringo, but they took the camera off me and said: ‘This is no way to use a camera,’ and they sort of jiggled it upside down and inside out a bit, and everybody was just mucking around”. The clip, along with footage of other celebrities, was donated by Swane’s daughter, Melinda Doring, to the national archive. – AFP

Kid Rock assistant found dead

Kid Rock's assistant died in an all-terrain vehicle accident at a Nashville property belonging to the singer. According to The Tennessean, 30-year-old Michael Sacha was found lying face down on the side of a driveway at Rock's White Creek house early on Monday morning. He was already dead when emergency services arrived. A news release from the Metro Nashville Police Department says the accident happened after Sacha drove two people down the driveway to meet an Uber driver at midnight. He crashed while riding the quad bike-style vehicle back to the residence. Rock, real name Robert Ritchie, and a friend found Sacha on Monday morning and called for help. Police said the death has been ruled as accidental. – AP

Disney unveils nine live-action movies

Disney has officially announced sequels for box office hits The Jungle Book and Maleficent, plus nine other live-action movies. The studio confirmed widespread rumours of a Mary Poppins sequel, starring Emily Blunt, and Cruella, a spin-off from 101 Dalmatians starring Emma Stone. Angelina Jolie will reprise her role as Maleficent while director Jon Favreau revisits the story of man-cub Mowgli for Jungle Book 2. Reese Witherspoon will take a leading role in Tinker Bell, based on Peter Pan, while Tim Burton will helm Dumbo, a modern retelling of the 1941 Disney classic. The films will be released between December next year and December 2019. In addition, Alice Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp, is due out next month, and a live-action Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, is due in March next year. Disney's live-action/CGI The Jungle Book has been a major international hit and is still in cinemas. – AFP

Jennifer Hudson to star in Hairspray Live!

Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein will headline the cast of NBC's Hairspray Live! on December 7. Based on the cult John Waters movie, set in 1960s Baltimore, it tells the story of curvy Tracy Turnblad, whose dream is to appear on a TV dance programme. Hudson, who will play Motormouth Maybelle, is currently starring in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple. She won an Oscar and Golden Globe in 2007 for the film Dreamgirls. Fierstein, who is also writing the teleplay, will play Edna Turnblad, Tracy's mother, a role he created and won a Tony Award for in the stage version of Hairspray. – AP

Rahul Raj Singh granted bail

The Bombay High Court has granted anticipatory bail to actor and producer Rahul Raj Singh, who is accused of abetting the suicide of his girlfriend, television actress Pratyusha Banerjee. Justice Mridula Bhatkar heard a three-and-half minute audio clip of the last telephone conversation between the couple, an hour before she hanged herself at her suburban home on April 1. Granting anticipatory bail, Justice Bhatkar noted there was no prima facie evidence to show that the accused "instigated or intended" the suicide. She also said that from witness statements, it was clear that harassment and disputes existed between the two, but there was nothing on record to show abetment. She said harassment or dispute could be a reason for a person to dislike the other person and take steps to end his/her life, but for proving the abetment, there has to be evidence to show instigation, provocation and intention. The court ruled that police could investigate without any custodial interrogation of Singh. Famed for her role as Anandi in tele-serial Balika Vadhu, Banerjee was found hanging in her flat by Singh on the evening of April 1. Two days later, following a complaint by her parents, Singh was charged with abetment to suicide and other charges. -IANS

Anurag Kashyap tweets movie poster for Raman Raghav 2.0

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap used Twitter to reveal the first look at his upcoming thriller Raman Raghav 2.0, featuring actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal. In the poster, Nawazuddin, who will be playing the role of a notorious serial killer, can be seen with red eyes with the backdrop of a metal tool drenched in blood while his entire portrait is coloured blue. Kashyap tweeted, "And here comes the first look of Raman Raghav 2.0." The film will have its premiere at the Cannes film festival's Directors Fortnight section next month. It is due to go on release on June 24 in India. - IANS
