Adele regains Billboard top spot

Adele may have cried all day after a shaky Grammy performance hit by a technical glitch last week, but the British songstress can take some comfort from reclaiming the top spot on the weekly Billboard 200 album chart. Demand for her hit album, 25, remains strong three months after its release. The album climbed from No 2 after clocking a further 151,000 units across album and song sales and streaming activity, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan. The album has sold 8.3 million copies in the United States. It features the song All I Ask, which Adele sang last week at the televised Grammy Awards. But her performance was marred by technical issues when a microphone fell on the piano's strings and the singer uncharacteristically hit sharp and flat notes. Later in the week, Adele appeared on Ellen DeGeneres's talk show and performed a flawless rendition of the song and gave a candid interview in which she said she was "so embarrassed" and "cried pretty much all day" after the Grammys. – Reuters

Vidyut Jamwal hypes sequel to commando

Action star Vidyut Jamwal says his upcoming film Commando 2 is a vast improvement on the first film. "The commandos are doing a better job this time," he said. "You'll see better action, the storyline is better and we're spending a lot of money this time. Several people have faith in it, everything is better and bigger." The film has been produced by Namastey London director Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who was also behind the first instalment in 2013. Shah was also responsible for casting Jamwal as a baddie opposite John Abraham in Force, which earned him the Filmfare award for Best Debut. "My father was in the Indian Army, so since childhood, I have seen a lot of army life. It was his wish that I join the army," said Jamwal. "My grandfather and all my family members were in the army. Though I didn't join the army, my parents were very happy when I had signed Commando – they thought I became a commando." Although trained in various forms of martial arts – and showing off his moves in the film Bullett Rajabut – the star said he would like to explore other genres. "I'll do all kinds of roles. If it has action, I'll do it with more interest," he said. "And if people accept different types of roles, the feeling is very good." – IANS

Dr Luke hits back over ‘trial by Twitter’

Pop star Kesha's former music producer says allegations that he had raped the singer are lies, as he hit back at a "trial by Twitter" backed by some of music's biggest names over Kesha's bid to extricate herself from a recording contract. Dr Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, posted a series of tweets saying that people supporting Kesha's claims of sexual assault against him were "getting behind an allegation only – motivated by money". "I didn't rape Kesha," the producer said. "Kesha and I were friends for many years and she was like my little sister. But lives can get ruined when there's a rush to judgment before all the facts come out. It's sad that she would turn a contract negotiation into something so horrendous and untrue." Anger and sympathy for Kesha swelled after a New York judge ruled on Friday that the 28-year-old singer could not be released from her six-album recording contract with Sony Music. Kesha claimed in a 2014 lawsuit that Dr Luke raped and emotionally manipulated her. Dr Luke countersued and both cases have yet to come to trial. – Reuters

Former beauty queen dies after car crash

A former Miss America contestant who was injured when her car spun off a wet motorway and crashed into trees last week, has died. Former Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum, who worked at a TV station and was known for her efforts in public service, died with her family by her side in a hospital operating room and her organs were donated, the family said. "We've prayed constantly for a miracle and we believe God has answered our prayers," the family wrote on Facebook. "Although it's not the miracle that we first envisioned, it's a miracle nonetheless." McCollum was 24 years old and lived in Margate. Her family posted a video of her performing a version of a Cups cover made popular by Anna Kendrick in the film Pitch Perfect. It includes the lyrics "you're gonna miss me when I'm gone". McCollum competed in Miss America in 2013 after winning that year's Miss New Jersey title. – AP
