Dh90,000

Annual rent for a studio apartment in Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR).

Features This fully furnished, 700-square-foot apartment is located on the 20th floor of Murjan 2.

Pros The sea views are a selling point. The beach is within walking distance and you have access to a communal pool. The number of shops, eateries and entertainment options has increased exponentially with the opening of The Beach – but this hasn't eased traffic on JBR's main throughway.

Cons This is at the high end of what you can expect to pay for a studio apartment in "New Dubai" – the average price in the Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers is about Dh75,000. But you do get extra space and sea views.

They say Beachfront living at an attractive price.

We say Murjan 2 is located at the front end of JBR, which makes access in and out slightly easier. Things will get better when the tram comes online, but, for now, be prepared to ditch the car at the weekends

Libya's Gold

UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.

The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.

Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
