"Loki's time has come," Disney+ declared as it launched the second trailer for Loki on Monday. The TV spin-off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will focus on Loki, known as the "god of mischief", who has been played by British actor Tom Hiddleston in several Marvel movies.
Hiddleston returns in the six-episode series as the fan-favourite character, set to begin after events in the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, in which Loki was last seen using the Tesseract – a cosmic cube which gives immense power to whoever wields it – to escape custody.
In the Loki trailer, the god of mischief and the Tesseract are brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority who "protect the proper flow of time".
Loki is being questioned by Mobius of the TVA, played by Owen Wilson, who tells him he needs to fix “reality” after he broke it when he used the Tesseract. But things don’t seem to go as planned as the partly-reformed Loki is let loose.
The series, which will begin streaming on Disney+ from Friday, June 11, is directed by Kate Herron, and also features Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Richard E Grant and Wunmi Mosaku, the breakout star of Netflix horror film His House, among others.
While there are implications that time travel will be a major theme in Loki, little else is known about the show's plot.
"All I can tell you is that it is called Loki. It is a new departure ... but I can't explain why," Hiddleston recently told The Hollywood Reporter when asked what fans can expect from the series.

Muslim Council of Elders condemns terrorism on religious sites
The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the criminal attacks on religious sites in Britain.
It firmly rejected “acts of terrorism, which constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of houses of worship”.
“Attacking places of worship is a form of terrorism and extremism that threatens peace and stability within societies,” it said.
The council also warned against the rise of hate speech, racism, extremism and Islamophobia. It urged the international community to join efforts to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
