Casey Kasem's family and close friends celebrated him in the same way much of America did – by listening to his unmistakable radio voice. Mourners at a small private memorial on Saturday for Kasem heard his old radio shows, including American Top 40, where he introduced music from Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell and the Bee Gees. The ceremony came a week after Kasem's death in Gig Harbor, Washington, at the age of 82. The family's representative Danny Deraney said around 100 family members, close friends and business associates gathered at the memorial at a church in the Bel Air neighbourhood. Kasem's three children all spoke and the pop music arranger David Campbell played a violin version of Stephen Sondheim's Send in the Clowns, one of Kasem's favourite songs. – AP
Raj Kapoor’s grandson Armaan Jain to make Bollywood debut
He's the lead star of the forthcoming film Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, but Armaan Jain is better known as the grandson of the late Raj Kapoor, one of Bollywood's veteran actors and producers. Talking to The Indian Express, Jain said: "I am very proud, it is an honour to be promoted as Raj Kapoor's grandson. I feel I am lucky to be associated with this name and the family. I do get scared at times of this name. I hope I get it right." Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is directed by Arif Ali and also marks the debut of the actress Deeksha Sheth. The film is produced by the actor Saif Ali Khan, whose wife, Kareena Kapoor, is Jain's cousin. The film is due out in the UAE on July 3. – The National staff
Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Harvey among big Daytime Emmy winners
Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Harvey and The Young and the Restless topped the 41st annual Daytime Emmy awards list. The Ellen DeGeneres Show grabbed its eighth trophy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show at the ceremony held on Sunday in Beverly Hills. The Steve Harvey show was named Outstanding Informative Talk Show; Harvey also won Best Game Show Host for Family Feud. The CBS show The Young and the Restless won Best Drama Series, while Billy Miller, one of its lead cast members, won for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Eileen Davidson of NBC's Days of Our Lives got Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Best Morning Program went to ABC's Good Morning America. – The National staff
Katie Couric marries financier in Hamptons
Katie Couric has married a New York financier in a small ceremony at her East Hampton home. According to People magazine, the former Today talk show host and John Molner married on Saturday in front of 50 guests. The 51-year-old Molner is a partner at the investment firm Brown Brothers Harriman and oversees mergers and acquisitions for the firm's corporate clients. He proposed to the 57-year-old Couric last September after nearly two years of dating. Couric's first husband, Jay Monahan, died in 1998 from colon cancer. She has two grown daughters. Molner has a son and a daughter. Couric hosted her own talk show after leaving Today and had a five-year run as the anchor of the CBS Evening News. She is now the global anchor for Yahoo News. – AP
