Photo project continues crowd funding drive

Theme is regular people as superheros called 'We Can Be Heros.' This is Superman and his wife as retired citizens. You may remember creative photographer Martin Beck's We Can Be Heroes project from our cover last month. Beck was getting his photograpy project off to a flying start at Middle East Film and Comic Con, where he and local crowd funding site Aflamnah hosted their first ever live crowdfunding project, and attracted over 150 pledges from people who had their portrait taken at the event in the process.

Beck says of the project: “I will be producing a series of gritty portraits with a nice slice of humour to go with it. The subject matter being those folk who didn’t quite make the grade at superhero school and are, like most of us, living their lives doing the day to day chores and their best to live a happy life while providing for their loved ones. Along with this gritty and humour laden style of photography, there is a very important message too. When we think of Superhero’s our initial thoughts are of perfect bodies and beautiful faces, in reality most of us are not like that. However, that doesn’t have to mean that we cannot still be heroes. Each of us in our own way can be heroes to our family, friends, colleagues and we all have the potential to help others.”

The crowdfunding still continues post-MEFCC, however, with rewards such as your very own concept photo shoot or a fine art print of one of the images from the series available, so check out the Aflamnah page to get involved.
