Ludacris to perform at Yasalam Beats on the Beach

The rapper Ludacris and the R & B artists Sean Kingston and Labrinth have been added to the Yasalam 2013: Beats on the Beach line-up on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. Ludacris will headline on Friday, November 1, alongside the R & B starlet Ciara and the Filipino pop singers Gary Valenciano and Vina Morales. The following day, Sean Kingston and Labrinth will take the stage as part of an eclectic bill featuring the UAE's Shamma Hamdan, the Arab Idol stars Mohammad Assaf and Salma Rachid, and Assi El Helani, the mentor for the Arab version of The Voice. Hugh Jackman is ambassador for Indian electronics company
Shah Rukh Khan, step aside. The New Delhi-based smartphone player Micromax has chosen the actor Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador, The Hindu newspaper reported. Jackman, well-known for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men movie series as well as winning an Academy-Award nomination for the musical Les Misérables, will be endorsing the soon-to-be-launched Micromax smartphone called Canvas Turbo. Lata Mangeshkar recipient of first Yash Chopra Memorial Award
In a tribute to the filmmaker Yash Chopra on the eve of the first anniversary of his death, the veteran Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar was conferred the first Yash Chopra Memorial Award at a glittering function in Mumbai. Manish Tewari, India's union minister for information and broadcasting, presented the award on Saturday to Mangeshkar. "Lata Mangeshkar, blessed with a beautiful voice, is the pride of the Indian music industry and a living legend," Tewari said. – IANS
Oprah Winfrey to auction personal items for charity
The chat show queen Oprah Winfrey is auctioning personal items from her various residences for charity. The collectables include signed poster prints from her movies, a marble bathtub and a doll. The 59-year-old is hoping to raise funds for her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation College Fund, which benefits graduates of her school for girls in Africa as they try to get into universities around the world. Among the items up for auction are poster prints from her hit 1985 film The Color Purple, several paintings and a British-inspired postbox. The items will go under the hammer on November 2. – IANS
