In a move that is likely to have had ageing gamers shedding a tear or remembering their favourite Guybrush Threepwood moments, Lucasfilm has announced that it is laying off all but a few staff at LucasArts, the gaming division behind much-loved titles such as Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle.
"After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model," said Lucasfilm.
Two projects LucasArts was working on, Star Wars: First Assault and the eagerly awaited Star Wars: 1313, have been cancelled.
