Safar, the UK’s only film festival dedicated solely to programming popular Arab cinema, returns to London’s ICA for its second edition from Friday 19 to Thursday 25 September.

Highlights of this year’s event, which is curated by the Arab British centre in partnership with the ICA and DIFF, include Q+As with well known industry figures, special meet and greet sessions and a day-long forum which will bring together some of Arab cinema’s biggest names to discuss the state of the industry, its past and its future. Of course, the festival will also feature numerous screenings, beginning with the gala opening screening of Factory Girls and a Q+A with director Mohamed Khan.

This year, the festival will also feature an exhibition, Whose Gaze is it Anyway?, which will look at Arab pop culture through printed matter relating to Arab cinema – posters, book covers, notebooks and so on – as well as films and videos themselves, and will run from September 2 to October 5 in the ICA’s Fox Reading Room.
