Out of this world Robin Williams costume up for sale
The famous red-and-silver spacesuit worn by Robin Williams in the hit 1970s television sitcom Mork & Mindy is going up for auction next month, with an estimate of up to US$20,000 (Dh73,460). Also on sale will be the egg-shaped spaceship in which the alien Mork travelled to Earth from Ork in the pilot episode of the series, which provided a breakthrough role for Williams. The actor committed suicide last month at the age of 63. "This is such a big piece from a pop-culture, television-history perspective," said Brian Chanes of the Profiles in History auction house. "I think that it's going to stand on its own merit, not because of what recently, tragically, happened with Robin." The Mork spacesuit – thought to be the only one ever to come up for public auction – is expected to fetch between $15,000 and $20,000, while the egg-spaceship could go for between $4,000 and $6,000. The items will go on sale at an auction of Hollywood memorabilia from October 17 to 20 in Calabasas, north-west of Los Angeles. – AFP
Stephen King time-travel novel to become TV miniseries
Stephen King's novel 11/22/63, about a man who travels back in time to prevent the Kennedy assassination, is being adapted into a TV miniseries. The streaming video service Hulu said that the author would be an executive producer of the nine-hour series, along with the Star Trek and Star Wars director J J Abrams. King said that if any of his works cried out for "long-form, event TV programming," then 11/22/63 was it. In the novel, published in 2011, a teacher discovers a portal into the past and decides to prevent Lee Harvey Oswald from assassinating John F Kennedy on November 22, 1963. A release date was not given. – AP
