Remember Italia ‘90? It was the only World Cup, so far, that the UAE has qualified for. In that sense, it’s the kind of story UAE producers such as Image Nation should be focusing on — and they now are.
A new documentary, funded by the Abu Dhabi producers and set to begin production this summer, seeks to not only tell the story, but reunite the entire team and take them to this year’s World Cup in Brazil.
The event kicks off on June 12 when hosts Brazil play Croatia in Sao Paulo, and the filmmakers hope to have the entire squad there when the cameras start rolling.
The production team behind the documentary hope to capture the joy and disappointment of the team’s qualification and swift exit from the 1990 competition, and view it through their eyes as they watch the 2014 competition unfold.
“This is completely different from any other project we have produced,” said Image Nation’s chairman Mohammed Al Mubarak. “This is not only about producing a really entertaining film, but will also serve as a historical document that finally details the legacy of what those players achieved for both UAE and Middle East football.”
The film, which will combine archival footage, interviews and new on-location shots, is being led by creative producer Stevan Riley and UAE-based director Nizar Sfair.

Torrena said that “most people believe that dieting and keeping fit is boring”.
However, by using social media apps keeping fit means that people are “modern and are kept up to date with the latest heath tips and trends”.
“It can be a guide to a healthy lifestyle and exercise if used in the correct way, so I really encourage my clients to download health applications” said Mrs Torrena.
People can also connect with each other and exchange “tips and notes, it’s extremely healthy and fun”.
