One of the muppets in the upcoming Arabic version of Sesame Street, titled Iftah Ya Simsim, made her public debut at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair on Sunday.

The character Shams, an energetic six-year-old-girl, made a special appearance at a book reading during the fair, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

She was supported by series regulars Elmo and Gargour who provided comic relief to Shams's passionate story-telling of tales about Faseel the Camel and Kiki and Koko. "We were certain that the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair would be the perfect time and place to introduce the newest member of our Iftah Ya Simsim family," said Cairo Arafat from the programme's production company Bidaya Media. "We are so pleased to have witnessed such a warm welcome for Shams from the audience. We are positive that she had an educationally, socially and emotionally enriching influence on the lives of our young audience."

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair ends on Wednesday. For details visit www.adbookfair.com
