Home improvements: Nail a polished project

You can turn unused bottles of nail polish into nifty DIY projects.

If you have an inexpensive necklace with clear rhinestones that need jazzing up, paint the stones in varying shades. You only need to colour the front of the stones.

If you’re feeling more creative, buy your own rhinestones. Paint them in a colour of choice, and once dry, attach to a piece of string.

Next, why not jazz up that pair of heels with the worn-out soles? Clean the bottoms with rubbing alcohol, before applying two coats of white nail polish. Then paint in the colour of your choice. Make sure they’re dry before you use them next.

Finally, you can personalise boring white mugs by marbleising them. Grab a cup or bowl of warm water and add a few drops of nail polish. If the polish sinks, it means the water is either too hot or too cold. Use either a toothpick or drink stirrer to swirl the colours. Once finished, dip the bottom of your mugs into the concoction, then allow to sit for a few seconds. Remove and place the mugs upside down to dry overnight.
