Home improvements: Get shadow boxing with your jewellery

Ladies, we all have those select pieces of jewellery that are far too beautiful to be confined to a jewellery box – earrings that always earn compliments, bracelets that match everything in your wardrobe or a necklace that has become your signature piece. While we don’t advocate putting your more lavish items on display, everyday costume jewellery is a different story. Cue the shadow box jewellery holder.

One part picture frame, one part jewellery holder, it will make a pretty wall hanging in your bedroom while acting as a storage unit. Grab a 28-centimetre by 35.5cm shadow box, hooks, a craft knife or scissors, wallpaper swatches, all-purpose glue and a drill.

Begin by removing the glass from the shadow box and cutting a piece of wallpaper to fit into the back of the box. Fix with glue. The wallpaper will need to match the decor of the room you’re placing it in. Next, drill holes for screw hooks in the back of your box. Before placing the glass back onto the shadow box, decide which jewellery pieces you want to display. From there, insert the hooks, reattach the glass and hang on the wall.
