Lady Gaga sends video message to her Little Monsters in the UAE
Lady Gaga has posted a video message on YouTube to let fans know how excited she is about her UAE gig on September 10, which is part of her artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball tour and her first-ever performance in the Middle East. "Marhaba Dubai, this is Lady Gaga. I can't wait to perform for the first time in the United Arab Emirates. I will see you soon at the Meydan Racecourse on September 10," says the Born This Way star. A bonus for fans who will be in the crowd at the show is that, despite the muggy September temperatures in the outdoor arena, the promoters have confirmed that there will be a cooling system in place for the event. Cool gusts of air will be blasted more than 20 metres into the air over the crowd by jet diffusers located in select areas throughout the Meydan Grandstand. – The National staff
Dubai wannabes aim to impress Arab Idol judges
The new season of Arab Idol begins on Friday night on MBC 1 with an opening show that will feature the highlights – and no doubt a few lowlights – of the auditions that took place at in Dubai. Hundreds of hopefuls queued up at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in March for a chance to impress the judges with their singing and win a coveted place in the TV finals. – The National staff
Fargo actress honoured at Venice Film Festival
The 30-year career of the actress Frances McDormand has been honoured with the Visionary Talent Award at the Venice Film Festival. The 57-year-old actress, who won an Academy Award for her role in the film Fargo, is also debuting her latest project, the four-part HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge, which she said was an unusual role because the main character is a woman over the age of 40. The miniseries is scheduled to be broadcast in November. – AP
Hi-5 House Hits heading to UAE
The children's musical group Hi-5 are coming to Dubai to perform for the first time in the Middle East. Their visit follows sold-out shows across Asia including Hong Kong and the Philippines. Hi-5 will perform on September 12 and September 13 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with three shows each day at 11am, 3pm and 7pm.
