Restored classics to screen at ADFF

The Abu Dhabi Film Festival has announced a collaboration with Martin Scorsese's The Film Foundation/World Cinema Project. Two recently restored films – The Color of Pomegranates (1968), by the Armenian director Sergei Parajanov, and Manila in the Claws of Light (1975), directed by the Filipino filmmaker Lino Brocka – will be screened during the festival, which runs from October 23 to November 1. The Film Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has saved more than 620 films from destruction. There will also be showings of restored versions of Rebel Without a Cause (1955), starring James Dean, and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), and 50th anniversary screenings of A Fistful of Dollars, Mary Poppins and the Beatles musical A Hard Day's Night. – The National staff

Magician Criss Angel explains cancelled shows

The illusionist Criss Angel has explained the reasons for cancelling his Dubai shows that had been scheduled for November 12 to 14. Speaking exclusively to The National, he said that the venue, Dubai's new Hamdan Sports Complex, needed more time to prepare for a show of this magnitude, but he still plans to bring his Mindfreak Live show to the city in the near future. "I was, and am still, very much looking forward to bringing my brand-new arena spectacular to Dubai and the UAE," he said. "It's disappointing that we were not able to accomplish that for this fall, but both myself and Done Events will only put on a show that is top-notch. I'd rather sacrifice time to make sure I am giving the market the absolute best show possible." Visit www.doneevents.com for the latest updates. – The National staff
