Popular grassy concert venue Dubai Media City Amphitheatre is set to go even greener – with news of a huge concert-come-party to mark St Patrick’s Day.
A slew of international music acts have been lined up to headline the Paddy’s Day Party, on Friday March 17, which promises a carnival celebration of “all things Irish” – and plenty of the Emerald Isle’s trademark merriment.
The music bill is focused on credible guitar-centric fair from the contemporary Irish scene, with headliners including alt-rock quintet Walking with Cars, indie favourites The Coronas and singer-songwriter Gavin James – winner of the Choice Music Prize gong for Irish Song of the Year for Bitter Pill, the title track of last year's debut album.
Plus there’s a fair dollop of feel-good, party-starting irony from The Stars Of The Commitments, which will see the cast from the award-winning cult film relieve their vintage soul revue live onstage.
Organised by McGettigan’s and DGT Events, the event also promises plenty of action offstage, including food, refreshment and traditional Irish dancers.
Meanwhile families will be welcomed with an array of activities, including bouncy castles and face painting.
“Everyone can be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day,” says Dennis McGettigan, CEO of McGettigan’s Irish bars.
“It’s a day that is celebrated worldwide, spreading far past the Emerald Isle, and it’s an event that welcomes all nationalities and cultures.”
Early bird tickets, including one drink, cost Dh125. Brunch packages, running from 1pm-4pm, are also available for Dh395. Tickets are expected to go on sale later this week.
