Stuck in Love

Director: Josh Boone

Starring: Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Lily Collins, Nat Wolff

Clichés about love and generational conflict are regurgitated, as a nuclear family of novelists try to cope with divorce. The successful author Bill (Greg Kinnear) has had a couple of years to lament his former wife Erica (Jennifer Connelly) walking out the door, giving him plenty of time to grow a beard – Hollywood’s surest sign of an emotional breakdown. The teenage daughter Samantha (Lily Collins) acts out, despite landing a cool book deal. The youngest child, Rusty (Nat Wolff), a Stephen King fan, wants everyone to just take a chill pill, except for his classmate Kate (Liana Liberato), who is central to a misguided drugs subplot. Alas, why couldn’t one of these fab authors have helped the first-time writer and director Josh Boone pen some decent dialogue?
